Celina works at a tollbooth in order to provide for her father who is very sick. But after coming back from church she finds him dead. Celina then resigns from her work at the tollbooth, to sell door to door a encyclopedia that has all the answers. Selling it will allow her to save money to look for her mother, who lives in Italy and is the only one she has left.

During her first sales journey she discovers that her mother never left to Italy, but remade her life and lives on the other side of the desert. Celina with the excuse to sell her a book, knocks on the door of her mother's house.
